Mover coverage questions

Do local movers need a BMC-34?

The BMC-34 is a federal filing for interstate household goods carriers. Local-only movers follow their state's rules, which may have different requirements.

Does the BMC-34 replace my liability filing?

No. Movers need both the liability filing and the cargo filing.

Can a customer buy separate insurance?

Some customers buy third-party moving insurance. That is separate from the mover's valuation and cargo coverage.

Does my building insurance cover customers' goods?

Usually not. Property insurance on the building covers your property, not the liability for goods you hold for others.

Can a new mover get cargo coverage?

Yes, though options may be narrower at first and depend heavily on experience.

Moving household goods across state lines?

Share your authority type, filing and truck count. A licensed agent or partner may contact you to discuss options.
